The City of Pratt was founded in 1884 and became a city of the second class in 1908.
The City of Pratt operates under a Commission-Manager form of government. The city manager is appointed by the commission and is charged with the administration of the city.
The City of Pratt is the county seat of Pratt County, Ks and is located 78 miles west of Wichita.

USD 471 Skyline serves the outlying areas of Pratt.
Pratt Community College is located within the city limits providing a 2 year curriculum of higher education with an approximate enrollment of 1275.

Pratt Regional Medical Center serves the community along with a number of medical professionals including several doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and optometrists.
