   About Pratt - General Info

The City of Pratt was founded in 1884 and became a city of the second class in 1908. The City of Pratt operates under a Commission-Manager form of government. The city manager is appointed by the commission and is charged with the administration of the city.

The City of Pratt is the county seat of Pratt County, Ks and is located 78 miles west of Wichita.

Agriculture and oil production along with wholesale and retail merchandising are important to the community.

Educational Institutions serving our citizens include USD 382 (enrollment approximately 1400 students) comprised of Southwest Elementary School, Haskins Elementary, Liberty Middle School and Pratt High School; Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary is a private school within the city limits and has an approximate enrollment of 80 students. USD 471 Skyline serves the outlying areas of Pratt. Pratt Community College is located within the city limits providing a 2 year curriculum of higher education with an approximate enrollment of 1275.

Medical and Health Facilities:
Pratt Regional Medical Center serves the community along with a number of medical professionals including several doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and optometrists.

Recreation, Cultural, and Religious Facilities:
Theatre, Skating Rink, Bowling Alley, 3 Golf courses, Pool, Parks, Tennis Complex, Walking Paths, Frisbie Golf Course, Pratt County Lake, Softball/Baseball Complex, Pratt Recreation activities, Community Concert, Music Theatre productions, Historical Museum, Pratt Public Library; Teen Center and 20 plus churches of all denominations.

Pratt News
The Main Street bricks that have been stockpiled north of the College in the Business Park are now available to the General Public. The bricks are for use by the citizens of Pratt County only. Bricks shall be loaded by hand, not by loaders or large equipment, to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to acquire their share of the bricks for their own use. Contractors and other Cities are not permitted access to the bricks for any reason.


The City of Pratt would like anyone who has sewer drain problems on the lowest floor of your home to call the City crews first before calling a plumber. City crews will check the sewer mains to determine if the problem is in the main or in your private line at no charge. This may help avoid an unnecessary plumbing bill and prevent damage to your home. Please call 672-3191, 672-3866 or 672-3831 after hours.
